As the year wraps up for most of us, I was trying to think of a teacher tip I have been using a lot lately. With all the activities and lessons that are getting done at this time, I thought of the Note to Self. I actually use it all year, but it seems like I have used it more in May and June. Like many of you, I do activities year to year and using a sheet like this is very handy.
The three sections on the sheet are what worked well, what I need to change, and things to remember. I just like to run these on bright colors so when I insert them into the file, they are easily spotted. One of the most recent activities I used this for was Colonial Day. After my team partners and I put all of the stuff away for Colonial Day, we brainstorm what worked, items we may need to get for next year, and any changes that need to be made. We have to write it down because it is one year before we do it again and its hard, if not impossible, to remember what we discussed.
So this year, one of the items I have to change for next year has to do with the weaving station. Last year we had in our notes that we needed 2 parent volunteers at that station all day. Since the frames need to be constantly reloaded with yarn for the next group, more hands are needed. Well, this year we discovered, that still isn’t enough. An additional person needs to be there. So I wrote under changes needed – have 3 parent volunteers at the weaving station.
Other things we put down was, need to purchase wax for candle making, need more ink and quills for writing at the school house, and we have enough fabric for girls hats next year. By taking notes for the activities or lessons you have taught, it will help you execute it better it in the future.
