As the year is coming to an end, things start getting busy!
I have had so many things going on these last few weeks: Colonial Day, Volunteer Breakfast, Field Day, Awards Assembly, Open House, and our class play. I have 8 days left and counting. It is bitter sweet! I had a great class this year – especially since there were 34 of them in a combo.
Friday night we had Open House which is always a display of all the fantastic work the students have doing. This year all my students did game boards for one of the books they read. They turned out amazing! In the next few days, students will get to play each other’s games. The criteria was to create a game board with directions, summary of the book, and what was their favorite of the story.
The game board that Hayden made was based on battleship. Talk about thinking outside of the box – I have never had a student use the board that way. Students have always used them flat on the table. The most impressive part was he used magnetic paper, so the washers actually stick to the paper on the top of the board. Very creative!
My 4th graders completed their maps of California and created food chains which I hung. I thought they were so cute! They actually created three food chains each. The first two used different sources of energy. The last one, students chose their own sources of energy.
Finally, my 5th graders created a diagram of the body and its systems. They worked in groups of four, each student focusing on a different system. This year’s body posters were exceptional. One of the things that made them so far apart from other years was there are a few girls in my room who have been teaching themselves calligraphy. But even then, the writing and coloring was done well.
Well, as we all wind down with our school year, I know we are all excited for summer to be here. But I can’t stop thinking of the group of kids I have to say good-bye to. I am lucky that my 4th graders are looping with me, so I will see the 13 of them in the fall. However, I wish my 5th graders the best as they head to middle school!
Everyone, enjoy your last days, even if you are as exhausted as me!
