When I return to school on Monday, one of the first things I do with the students is setting new goals for the year. I do this for myself each year and I like to do it with the kiddos too.
Since I have a combo class, I have to alternate each January with my goal setting activity. Therefore, you will notice my pictures reflect 2018 from 2 years ago. I will create my 2020 vision board this Monday with my students.
Normally, I have the students generate a list of things they could make as goals and what they envision there life being like this year. For example:
- Getting good grades
- Reading more books or a certain number this year
- Accomplishing a new task
- Try a new sport
- Save money for something
- Eat better foods
- Be a better friend
- Keep room clean
- Try to make new friends
- Spread kindness
These are just a few ideas. I also encourage students to think of things they want to accomplish in life like:
- Graduating from college
- Scoring so many goals in a game
- Owning a car
- Owning a house
- Going on a vacation in a certain location
- Going to a theme park
- Going to a special sporting event
- Spending time with friends and family
There are lots of different ideas for what students want to accomplish in life.
Once students have generated their list, I have them go through magazines and ads to find pictures in order to decorate their vision board. On one side the students will have all the pictures glued down in a collage of 2020. The backside will be the written description of their goals and future accomplishments.
Once all the vision boards are done, I will put them on display in my classroom windows.
Below are two examples from 2018.

Check back in and I will have an update with the progress and completion of this activity in the next week.
Thanks for stopping by!
